Dr. Virendra Swarup (25 July, 1923 – 26 February, 1980) was a distinguished visionary, a trailblazer in the realm of education, and a respected parliamentarian. As a torchbearer of the Swarup family legacy, Dr. Virendra Swarup made significant contributions to education in the populous state of Uttar Pradesh. His impact is unmistakable, evident from his instrumental role in establishing a network of educational institutions across all levels. Hailing from a notable lineage of freedom fighters and educators, Dr. Swarup was part of an illustrious family. His uncle, Rai Bahadur Anand Swarup ji, played a pivotal role in founding Dayanand Anglo Vaidik Mahavidyalaya (DAV College) in Kanpur on 18th July, 1910, assuming the presidency of DAV College Society. Dr. Virendra Swarup's father, Rai Bahadur Brajendra Swarup ji, served as the Joint Secretary and later became the President.

After four terms as a Member of the Legislative Council, Dr. Swarup became the Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. Additionally, he headed the esteemed ‘Dayanand Shiksha Sansthan,’ Uttar Pradesh, overseeing more than 25 postgraduate and intermediate colleges across the state. Dr. Swarup’s legacy is deeply interwoven into our organization. His fearless pursuit of grand visions inspired us to dream alongside him. A true visionary, he perceived opportunities where others saw obstacles. His innovative spirit and forward-thinking approach have left an enduring imprint on each of us. A role model for many, he was always available at the service of people from all walks of life. He worked tirelessly all his life to raise the next generation. His life continues to shine like a beacon inspiring all of us at the Dr. Virendra Swarup Education Foundation. In loving memory of his father, Dr. Nagendra Swarup established The Virendra Swarup Educational Foundation in Kanpur in 1989, preserving and honouring his father's cherished legacy.
